Matt Bekkers est un musicien, compositeur, auteur et metteur en scène bruxellois.
Compositeur autodidacte, créateur d'univers sonores et narratifs, il compose principalement une musique instrumentale à la croisée des genres, mixant des instruments modernes (jazz, rock, électro) et classiques (cordes, cuivres, orchestral). Artiste pluridisciplinaire, également auteur et metteur en scène de théâtre, il déploie ses visions utopistes en conciliant musique et narration sur différents médias.
Matt a vécu plusieurs vies : septuple champion de Belgique de karaté dans son enfance, il enchaîne aussi plus de 20 rôles au théâtre. Il délaisse la compétition et le jeu pour se consacrer à l'écriture et à la mise en scène. Il monte un projet de théâtre éducatif avec la Ligue des Droits Humains et le Théâtre de Poche, travaille un temps chez MCM Belgique, puis au Théâtre Le Public. Il dirige ensuite une troupe de théâtre pour ados pendant 10 ans et forme de jeunes comédien.ne.s.
En parallèle de ce parcours du combattant, toujours, la musique en toile de fond. Après quelques cours de guitare, Matt dévore tout ce qui fait vibrer son tympan. Très vite, il compose, forme des groupes et enregistre sa propre musique. De fil en aiguille, Matt devient multi-instrumentiste (guitare, piano, basse, batterie) afin d'incarner sa propre partition et se dirige vers la musique instrumentale. Il entend une symphonie intérieure, mais ne sachant ni lire, ni écrire la musique... il est incapable de la matérialiser. La MAO (musique assistée par ordinateur) et le language MIDI lui permettent de concrétiser ce qu'il entend. Il compose des bandes sons de spectacles et met en musique des textes de poésie et de slam.
Matt compose en 2020 The Last Wild Unknown, son premier album instrumental solo. Pendant le confinement, il développe les Brainwaves Sessions, des performances électro multi-instrumentales en direct de son salon. Il signe ensuite Sylvebarbe, sa première composition entièrement orchestrale pour un spectacle de contes, puis À nos cris dans le néant rien ne répond, un spectacle de poésie avec la compagnie Thalie Envolée, qu'il sort également sous forme d'EP.
En 2023, Matt compose The Wonder Process, une symphonie d'aujourd'hui qui bouscule les frontières entre les genres et raconte la résilience individuelle et collective, la quête d'identité authentique et la capacité à se réinventer dans un monde en mutation.
A travers The Wonder Process, Matt met en scène son parcours singulier et nous emmène dans un projet musical, narratif et participatif en 3 mouvements.
Il explore de nouvelles pistes (de danse) en créant une composition originale Prolonge la nuit, un projet innovant mêlant poésie parlée et musique électro, en collaboration avec Thalie Envolée.
Matt prépare plusieurs projets mêlant musique et narration. Avec le compositeur Dan De Ridder, il crée Swell Factory : un duo electro et orchestra mêlant instruments réels et virtuels joués en live, beatmaking, textures sonores, machines analogiques autour d’une création vidéo immersive.

Matt Bekkers is a Brussels-based musician, composer, author and director. Creator of soundscapes and narratives, he primarily composes instrumental music that blends various genres, incorporating modern instruments (jazz, rock, electro) and classical elements (strings, brass, orchestral). A multidisciplinary artist, he is also a playwright and theater director, weaving his utopian visions into a harmonious blend of music and storytelling on various medias.
Matt has lived several lives: a seven-time Belgian karate champion in his youth, he also played over 20 roles in theater. He left the world of competition and acting to focus on writing and directing. He initiated an educational theater project with the League of Human Rights and Théâtre de Poche, worked for a time at MCM Belgium, and then at Théâtre Le Public. Subsequently, he led a youth theater troupe for 10 years and trained young actors.
All along this journey, music has been a constant backdrop. After a few guitar lessons, Matt immersed himself in all things musical. Quickly, he began composing, forming bands, and recording his own music. Gradually, Matt became a multi-instrumentalist (guitar, piano, bass, drums) to embody his own musical scores and gravitated toward instrumental music. He heard an inner symphony but couldn't materialize it due to his inability to read or write sheet music. Music production software (DAW) and MIDI language enabled him to bring his auditory ideas to life. He composed soundtracks for performances and set music to poetry and slam texts.
In 2020, Matt composed The Last Wild Unknown, his first solo instrumental album. During the lockdown, he developed the Brainwaves Sessions, live electro multi-instrumental performances from his living room. He then crafted Sylvebarbe, his first entirely orchestral composition for a storytelling show, followed by À nos cris dans le néant rien ne répond, a poetry performance with the Thalie Envolée company, which he also released as an EP.
In 2023, Matt composed The Wonder Process, a contemporary symphony that blurs the boundaries between genres, narrating individual and collective resilience, the quest for authentic identity, and the ability to reinvent oneself in a changing world. Through The Wonder Process, Matt stages his unique journey and invites us into a musical, narrative, and participatory project in three movements.
He explored new (dance) ways by creating an original DJ set called Prolonge la nuit, an innovative project merging spoken poetry and electronic music, in collaboration with Thalie Envolée.
Matt is preparing several projects that blend music and storytelling. Together with composer Dan De Ridder, he created Swell Factory, an electro-orchestral duo combining live-played and virtual instruments, beatmaking, sound textures, analog machines, and immersive video art.

"This is my very first childhood memory : I must be 2 years old, walking on all fours towards the odd spinning machine. I grab the "Peter and the Wolf" record, take it out of its sleeve, put it on the turntable, push all the right buttons in the right order until it starts to turn. (Actually I suppose my father had to assist me.)
I put on the headphones and am instantly enveloped by the music and the story. I walk far away, while still standing there. Transported by wonder. At that very moment, my fate was sealed."

"C'est mon tout premier souvenir d'enfance : je dois avoir 2 ans, je marche à quatre pattes vers la drôle de machine tournante. Je saisis le disque de "Pierre et le Loup", le sors de sa pochette, le pose sur la platine, appuie sur tous les bons boutons dans le bon ordre jusqu'à ce qu'il se mette à tourner. (En vérité j'imagine que mon père a du m'assister.)
