Matt Bekkers is a Brussels-based composer and multi-instrumentalist. His music blends modern and classical elements, from electro, jazz and classical. A multidisciplinary artist, he is also a playwright and theater director, weaving his utopian visions into a harmonious blend of music and storytelling on various medias.
He first composed soundtracks for performances and set music to poetry and slam texts.
In 2020, Matt composed and produced The Last Wild Unknown, his first solo instrumental album. He developed the Brainwaves Sessions, live electro multi-instrumental performances. He then crafted Sylvebarbe, his first entirely orchestral composition for a storytelling show, followed by À nos cris dans le néant rien ne répond, a poetry performance for Thalie Envolée.
In 2023, Matt composed The Wonder Process, a contemporary symphony blending a symphonic orchestra with a jazz trio in its core. Through The Wonder Process, Matt put in music his unique journey and utopian views, narrating individual and collective resilience, the quest for authentic identity, and the possibility to reinvent ourselves in a changing world.
He explored new (dancing) ways by creating an original electronic music creation called Prolonge la nuit, an innovative project merging spoken poetry and electronic music, in collaboration with Thalie Envolée.
Together with composer Dan De Ridder, he created Swell Factory, a multi-instrumental duo. They released their first EP - REAL - blending electronic and orchestral music with audio testimonies on mental health themes.
