ESCAPE KIT
ESCAPE KIT
First single IKIGAI out now !
Ok, let me recap, because you didn’t follow everything.
Neither did I.
I’m Matt Bekkers, musician, composer and… well, that’s not the point, because I’m not going to talk about myself.
I’m going to tell you about a meeting.
A meeting that turned my life upside down.
Some projects you just don’t plan.
They’re born from a chance encounter,
a runaway moment,
an urgent need to create,
to reinvent the world…
Escape KIT started like that — 2 a.m., after a jam, in a little jazz club in the capital.
I was on my third beer, I think — the one too many — and that’s when they showed up...
Takumi on double
triple bass
— fearless, about 1.60 m, heels included.
Iba on drums
— solar-powered, charged to 300%
and Keith, the cursed pianist
— hiding under his hat.
And they played this :
I could have left them there.
I didn’t.
I said: “Okay, I’ll produce your album.”
Problem was: there was no album.
No songs.
No project.
No plan.
I went all in.
My banker calls it a catastrophe. I call it destiny.
Since then, the band has taken over my life (and my studio).
They practically live at my place.
It’s brilliant and impossible to manage
— especially after 2 a.m.
They play a kind of jazz I can’t really label. Neither can they. A jazz that won’t sit still.
A jazz that refuses to behave.
It exults, it trembles.
It’s alive, organic, sometimes rough, sometimes melancholic.
Always theatrical and full of feeling.
You’ll get why it hit me.
I almost regretted it.
But they took me somewhere else.
Into their chaos. Their madness. Their music.
And that chaos — today — has a name.
Ikigai.
Their first single.
And maybe my most beautiful mistake.
So I have no idea where this adventure will take us.
They don’t either.
But if you want to know what happens next, follow them !
