Picture of Myself: First single and video for Swell Factory
More than 750 million people worldwide, or 1 in 10, suffer from depression or anxiety disorders. And yet, we hear so little about it. Social taboos, secrecy and shame isolate victims, often trapping them in silence. The duo Swell Factory (Matt Bekkers & Dan De Ridder) breaks this silence through music and imagery. From the very start of the Picture of Myself video, we are drawn in by Eddy's testimony, diagnosed with depression and anxiety disorders. On screen, a gallery of people follows. Faces tell their stories, reveal their scars. Swell Factory’s electronic and orchestral music brings these emotions, these unspoken truths, to the surface. The gazes tighten, flinch, confront, soften, and brighten.
Imaginary Music for La Compagnie du Hanneton
Always fascinated by the performances of James Thierrée and his "Compagnie du Hanneton" —those unclassifiable, multidisciplinary stage epics where dreams and realities, illusions and neuroses of bodies, souls, and the world compulsively clash in a coherent, surreal, orchestrated confusion that defies the laws of both narrative logic and physics. And emerging from the midst of this obsessive, apocalyptic chaos, there is always beauty, grace, utopia.
I composed this piece as a tribute to their shows.
Dorothy's Twist: The tornado scene from the Wizard of Oz re-scored.
Who has never dreamed of a trip in a flying house?
Little Dorothy dreamed of a technicolor world, far from her Kansas farm, somewhere over the rainbow, in the realm of her imagination... A little tornado and the trick is done!
Here's my full orchestral re-score and sound design to pay tribute to this legendary scene.
Follow Dorothy into the tornado.
Memories of the day you disappeared in the sea: a short musical dive into emotional memory.
Life is a film, memories are the scenes, and music is the thread that binds them together...
A piano and string quintet composition set to the images of video artist Life on super 8.
These micro-films are tainted with an observer's sensitivity that immediately struck me and inspired a narrative. It took me a while to understand what these images were telling my subconscious and why they provoked such melancholy in me...
Watch the video & go for a dive into emotional memory
New music video: Rise up
Imagine a world where music is forbidden.
(Don't do this for too long, it's depressing.)
This dystopian premise inspired me the story of a revolt led by a musician, Rose. Rise up is a snippet of this project which mixes alternative orchestral music and narration.
It fitted in perfectly with the energy and dystopian atmosphere of Thea von Harbou's book and Fritz Lang's film Megalopolis.
Rise up, Rose! May the sting of your thorns awaken us from our stupor.
Catch me if you can: An orchestral tribute to Buster Keaton
Buster Keaton's magic deserves a symphony orchestra.
This piece is my personal tribute to one of the greatest actor, stuntman & clown of the history of cinema !
Catch him here if you can...
