Matt Bekkers est compositeur, auteur, producteur et multi-instrumentiste bruxellois. Sa musique fait dialoguer librement pop, électronique, jazz et musique orchestrale. Son travail est porté par une conviction : l’utopie est possible, à condition de la construire.

Avec Dreambuilding, son projet actuel, il transforme cette conviction en un album-concept qui retrace le parcours d’un rêve, de l’étincelle initiale à sa réalisation, à travers dix lois en spoken word et dix chansons. L’univers de Dreambuilding déborde de l’album pour se déployer en images, en poésie et dans l’espace urbain, où les dix lois prennent de nouvelles formes et continuent leur chemin.

Cette approche de la musique comme espace de création et de narration traverse également ses autres projets récents. Il signe notamment The Wonder Process, une œuvre pour orchestre et trio jazz, et cofonde le duo Swell Factory, avec lequel il livre REAL, un EP mêlant électronique, orchestration et témoignages sur la santé mentale.

Compositeur pour l’image et le spectacle vivant, il crée également des musiques originales pour le cinéma, le théâtre, la poésie et le cirque.

Aussi formé au théâtre, il dirige pendant dix ans le Théâtre des 3 Portes, une troupe pour adolescents, pour laquelle il écrit et met en scène plusieurs spectacles. Son adaptation déjantée et intergénérationnelle de Roméo & Juliette est primée à la COCOF et au Trophée Royal d’Art Dramatique. 

Aujourd’hui, il réunit musique, narration et création collective dans des projets transdisciplinaires autour de l’utopie, comme LUXIDITY et La Bataille. Ce dernier est soutenu par la Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles.

Matt Bekkers is a Brussels-based composer, writer, producer and multi-instrumentalist. His music brings together pop, electronic music, jazz and orchestral music. His work is driven by one conviction: utopia is possible, if you're willing to build it.

With Dreambuilding, his current project, he turns that conviction into a concept album tracing the journey of a dream, from its first spark to its realization, through ten spoken-word laws and ten songs. The Dreambuilding universe extends beyond the album into video, poetry and the urban space, where the ten laws take on new forms and continue their journey.

This approach to music as a space for creation and storytelling also runs through his recent projects. He created The Wonder Process, a work for orchestra and jazz trio, and co-founded the duo Swell Factory, with whom he released REAL, an EP blending electronic music, orchestration and spoken testimonies on mental health.

As a composer for screen and the performing arts, he also creates original music for film, theatre, poetry and circus.

Also trained in theatre, he spent ten years directing Théâtre des 3 Portes, a youth theatre company, for which he also wrote and directed several productions. His intergenerational adaptation of Romeo & Juliet received awards from COCOF and the Royal Dramatic Arts Trophy.

Today, he brings together music, storytelling and collaborative creation in transdisciplinary projects exploring utopia, including LUXIDITY and La Bataille. The latter is supported by the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles.
