Matt Bekkers est un artiste multidisciplinaire bruxellois. Auteur, musicien, metteur en scène et compositeur, il alterne ces casquettes et les combine dans des créations hybrides. Son travail met l’utopie en action pour ouvrir des brèches dans le réel, inventer de nouveaux possibles, activer la créativité collective et rallumer la flamme d’un imaginaire constructif et partagé.

Formé au théâtre, à la musique et au storytelling transmedia, il débute comme comédien avant de se concentrer sur la mise en scène et l’écriture. Pendant dix ans, il dirige le Théâtre des 3 Portes, une troupe de théâtre pour adolescents, où il écrit, met en scène plusieurs spectacles, dont Dans Bruxelles, La Vie d’Alex (vaut-elle la peine d'être vécue ?) et Outside the Box. Il y aborde des enjeux sensibles — dépendance aux écrans, harcèlement collectif, quête de sens — où les personnages et les participant·es sont invités à réinventer et à transformer leurs réalités. Son adaptation intergénérationnelle de Roméo & Juliette, réunissant jeunes et adultes sur scène, a été primée à la COCOF et au Trophée Royal d’Art Dramatique (Prix du Public et meilleure mise en scène).

Parallèlement, il trace un parcours musical singulier : composition de musique originale pour le spectacle vivant (Sylvebarbe, À nos cris dans le néant rien ne répond) et collaborations avec le collectif de poésie Thalie Envolée (Prolonge la Nuit,  Le Refuge des Sens). Il compose The Wonder Process, symphonie fusionnant un orchestre et un trio jazz sur le thème de l’émerveillement et la résilience. Il cofonde le duo Swell Factory, avec lequel il signe REAL, un EP mêlant musique électronique, orchestrations et témoignages sur la santé mentale.

Matt développe également des projets transmedia explorant l’utopie, comme LUXIDITY (R/O Institute, Wallimage, Media-Participations) ou La Bataille, un projet pluridisciplinaire combinant musique, théâtre et participation citoyenne pour interroger les droits humains, qui reçoit en 2025 une bourse de recherche et d’expérimentation de la Fédération Wallonie Bruxelles.

Egalement animateur d'ateliers et formateur, il accompagne jeunes et adultes dans la création artistique, développant une pratique de transmission et de médiation visant à stimuler la créativité et la co-création via des dispositifs pluridisciplinaires.

Matt Bekkers is a multidisciplinary artist based in Brussels. As a writer, musician, director, and composer, he alternates between these roles and combines them in hybrid creations. His work sets utopia in motion to open cracks in reality, invent new possibilities, activate collective creativity, and reignite the spark of a constructive, shared imagination.

Trained in theatre, music, and transmedia storytelling, he began his career as an actor before focusing on directing and writing. For ten years, he led Théâtre des 3 Portes, a theatre company for adolescents, where he wrote and directed several productions, including Dans Bruxelles, La Vie d’Alex, and Outside the Box. He addresses sensitive issues—screen addiction, collective bullying, the search for meaning—inviting characters and participants to reimagine and transform their realities. His intergenerational adaptation of Romeo & Juliet, bringing together young and adult performers on stage, was awarded at COCOF and the Royal Dramatic Arts Trophy (Audience Award and Best Direction).

In parallel, he has developed a distinctive musical path: composing soundtracks for performing arts (Sylvebarbe, À nos cris dans le néant rien ne répond) and collaborating with the poetry collective Thalie Envolée (Prolonge la Nuit, Le Refuge des Sens). He composed The Wonder Process, a symphony blending orchestra and jazz trio around wonder and resilience. He also co-founded the duo Swell Factory, with whom he released REAL, an EP combining electronic music, orchestration, and testimonies on mental health.

Matt also develops transmedia projects exploring utopia, such as LUXIDITY (R/O Institute, Wallimage, Media-Participations) and La Bataille, a multidisciplinary project combining music, theatre, and civic participation to address human rights, which received a 2025 research and experimentation grant from the Fédération Wallonie Bruxelles.

Also a workshop facilitator and trainer, he supports young people and adults in artistic creation, developing a practice of mentorship and mediation aimed at fostering creativity and co-creation through multidisciplinary projects.
